INTRODUCTION


The University Library is an integral part of the University with the main objective of providing the university community with a wide range of scholarly materials that are consistent with the institution’s mission, curricula/research needs and academic freedom tenets. Specifically, information resources are provided to stimulate students’ knowledge acquisition so as to achieve academic excellence and integrity of purpose.

Libraries which hitherto assumed the role of storehouses and depository for books and non-book materials now have new looks, in fact, the library where it exists remains the engine room of any educational centre.  That is, a blend of traditional roles of the library with a flavour of Information and Communications Technology will help achieve academic excellence. They have also emerged as a far-reaching body of information resources and services for teeming population within and outside the physical walls of a building.

The University library is charged with the responsibility of providing students, staff and people within the university community unfettered access to an extensive range of information resources by carrying out the basic functions of: sorting, ordering, acquiring, processing,
organizing, preserving and dissemination of information within the mission and vision of the
university.

The core activities of an academic library are:

1. Library Administration/ Resources Management

2. Circulation Unit Management

3. Collection Development /Resources Development

4. Organization of Information Materials/Technical

5. Management of Reference, Reserved and Information Services

6. Management of Computer Resource Centre /Information and Communications Technology Division

7. Media and Public Relation Service Division/Audio Visual Unit

8. Serials Management

9. Conservation and Preservation of library materials

10. Research, Bibliographic and Development Unit

All these activities are carried out to:

  • support in totality the cutting-edge value to provision of print and electronic resources that can engender teaching, learning, research and community development.
  • nurture the existing programme of the university library as envisioned by the founding fathers (past and existing University Librarians).
  • provide value added services through the provision of a world class print and electronic resources that will make and produce marketable human resources in the labour market.
  • explore all avenues by coordinating scholarly publications in the university with a view to establishing institutional repository. The object is to improve the webometrics ranking of the University.
  • perform advisory roles on how to promote the economy of the university through internally generated revenue, this could be achieved through the provision of services such as:
    • E-resources services;
    • Establishment of printing unit along with modern bindery services; Coordination of library projects production;
    • Bar-coding and digitization of rare materials that will help in the selection, preservation and dissemination of information: and
    • Introduction of acts that will envision a road map for Information and Communications Technology development and projects that can favourably aid information provision and services.

 

MISSION STATEMENT


The mission of the University Library is to support and promote intellectual growth and creativity of the university by developing collections, facilitating unhindered access to information resources, teaching the effective use of information resources and critically evaluating library services that meets global standard. The aim is to support the mission and vision of the founding fathers of the University so as to achieve the aims and objectives of the university.

 

GOAL


To assist students succeed in their educational pursuits through significant efforts, that is, provide services that can promote, integrate and transform education that is relevant and germane to the nation and its citizens. The intention is to provide value added library services that can meet educational aspirations of the users which can nurture their creativity, innovation and community responsibility.

 

VISION STATEMENT


The vision is to develop the total human so as to stimulate and promote the dignity of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso.

Intention

1. Become vital to every LAUTECH students and staff

2. Become a recognised partner to all LAUTECH faculties

3. Keep each user’s success at heart; think of how to achieve and sustain the success

4. Connect with others in the education industry to respond to global changes that affect higher education, libraries and patrons we serve

5. Develop a culture that includes and respect all ideas, views and perspectives

6. Pursue actively, partnership that promote LAUTECH and community success

7. Strive to build a balanced physical and online collections and services

8. Use data, evidences and knowledge intentionally to make decisions

9. To be a place where people learn fast and discover the future
